Overview of Season 5 New Rules
1) Players of the Week - There will still be a weekly award handed out but it will be on the basis of feats in a single game as opposed to over the entire week. The rationale here is that much of the time a player of the week in a given month also gets the Player of the Month nod (somewhat a case of double-dipping). The award will still be one FP but will hopefully better spread the joy.
2) Post-Season Basestealing - Basestealing thresholds of 125% of the carded amounts will still be used during the regular season as normal, but they have not been enforced at all in the past once the post-season rolls around. For the post-season, a player will have his base stealing limit set to 15% of his annual limit (based on a max of 28 playoff games played) rounding up, So a player with one steal attempt in the regular season will have one steal attempt available in the post season and a player with 100 attempts (a regular season limit of 125 @ 125%) will be allowed 19 steals. This will be monitored for each surviving team at the end of the series. The penalty for exceeding the limit will be fairly severe given that in most cases playoff series are played live so an infraction here is deliberate. The penalty will start at the player exceeding the limit being disabled for the next series as well as a loss of a draft pick the next season which will be determined later. If a violation occurs in the world series and the team commiting the infraction is the winner, the game in whcich and those after which the infaction incurred must be replayed (if possible) or the series must be replayed. The rationale for the severity of the penalty is tied to the importance of the games/series being played.
For Season 6:
3) LEG will be moving to the implementation of a league-wide DH. Of the 15 votes provided (with only Fantomz not responding), 12 votes to switch. Editorial note: while I am still not a fan of the DH several people who are of like mind have also acknowledged that it makes more sense in a league like LEG especially as the vast majority of owners joining ask to be in the AL or ask annually to move from the NL to the AL. I regard this as a positive in the overall health and interest of the league.
So ...
a) Use of the DH by team remains optional on a game-by-game bases.
b) NL teams will be given a supplemental pick in the same order of the regular draft follwoing the completion of the 3rd round. This draft pick is optional. In order to participate, an NL must release one pitcher without penalty regardless of their contract status and draft a non-pitcher only.
