Shawnee Tiggers Defeat Happy Valley Stargazzers in 2018 ICBL World Series

Tom McDuffie's Shawnee Tiggers defeated Rob Crowner's Happy Valley Stargazzers to win the 2018 Season ICBL World Series. In a hard fought series it was a Josh Donaldson homer that gave Shawnee the win and Series title. For Shawnee, it was their second World Series title, having won in 2015.
CONGRATULATIONS to both Tom and Rob on great seasons, as well as to all playoff teams.

Game 1 – Stargazers ace Steven Strasburg pitched 6.1 one hit innings to pick up the win. Shawnee could only manager 2 hits the entire game. Brian McCann hit the games only Homerun for HV.
Happy Valley wins 3 to 1.

Game 2 – Happy Valley lost leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in a back and forth game. Shawnee tied the game in the 5th and took the lead in the bottom of the 6th . The Tigger bullpen took over from there throwing 3.1 scoreless innings to tie the series up.

Game 3 – Shawnee sends Zack Greinke their best to the mound and he struggles giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and walking 4 to take the loss. Ben Zobrist was the hitting star for Happy Valley clubbing 3 HR’s and driving in 3. The Stargazers take a 2 – 1 lead.

Game 4 – This was a tight game all the way. Manny Pina homers in the top of the 4th to give Shawnee the lead. Matt Albers enters in the 8th and promptly gives up 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks in 1/3 of a inning. The Stargazers take the lead into the 9th and their closer Carlos Ramirez gives up 2 runs on 2 hits and walk to give Shawnee the win and ties the series back up. Strasburg pitched well again going 6 innings allowing 1 run. And eyeing a another start in a possible game 7.

Game 5 – This one had a wild start both starters combined for 1 inning. Jake Faria couldn’t find the plate walking in 2 runs in the top of the 1st. Charlie Morton was removed from the game after getting 2 outs due to a injury. Jimmy Nelson came on and gave 1 run back in bottom of the first to cut the lead in half. Shawnee tacked on a run in the 4th and 2 runs in the 7th to pull off the 5-2 win.

Game 6 - Shawnee when into this game knowing Strasburg was waiting to start game 7. The Tiggers send their ace Zack Greinke to face Lance Lynn. Greinke had not had a good post season coming into this game but he stepped up and pitched 10.1 scoreless innings. He scattered 6 hits and 2 walk while striking out 12. The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the 11th and Happy Valley brought in Madison Bumgarner who gave up a one out walk to Joey Votto. Lorenzo Cain singles sending pinch runner Raul Modesi to 3rd. Mike Moustakas hits a weak pop up for out number 2. Josh Donaldson came to the plate having only 1 hit in 14 AB’s, but all is forgotten when hit hits a 3 run homer over the left field wall to give the Series victory 4 games to 2.
